Our Story

How a family's darkest season became a garden of hope

"Gardens go through winter. Everything looks dead. Cold. Hopeless. But underneath the soil, life is waiting. And when spring comes... everything blooms again."

How It All Began

Our story begins in 2014. Shaheen and Laila met through a mutual family friend and instantly connected. It was like a match made in heaven. The first time they talked, it felt like they had been talking their whole lives, as if they knew each other forever.

Three months later, on December 14, 2014, Shaheen proposed to Laila at sunset on the beach. And to his surprise, she said yes.

Life was good. Shaheen worked at a family-run medical supplies business in Gaza. They rented a small apartment, had a lovely wedding, and a new chapter began. Shaheen is 34 years old, Laila is 32. They both love old music, going to the beach, and reading books. Shaheen is spontaneous; Laila is calculated and won't do anything before planning. Like the Yin and Yang.

Our Family Grows

In 2015, their first-born came to life: Shawkat. The cutest and calmest baby you will ever see. Then came Tolen, and then Zain. Three beautiful children who became the center of everything.

Life in Gaza was never easy. There was always pressure and stress. Throughout the years there were ups and downs, but they always worked through their problems together.

October 7th, 2023

Until that day, everything changed. Their world was destroyed. Everything they loved and lived for in Gaza was gone. They were very lucky to escape, but their troubles didn't end there. They only just started.

A New Challenge Arrives

Not much time after they fled to Egypt — exactly in October 2024 — Laila was diagnosed with HER2 breast cancer.

After hearing the news, they were in the worst situation of their lives. In a new country, no job, no medical insurance. At that moment, it felt as if the world had crushed them. Breathing became too hard. With three kids, life looked very sad and impossible to live.

Why "Laila's Garden"

But then they thought about gardens. Gardens go through winter. Everything looks dead. Cold. Hopeless. But underneath the soil, life is waiting. And when spring comes... everything blooms again.

That's what Laila's Garden is. It's their way of saying: We're still here. We're still growing. And beautiful things are still possible.

Every product in the shop carries this message. You're not just buying a mug or a blanket. You're carrying a piece of their garden with you. You're helping fund Laila's treatment. You're proving that hope can bloom even in the darkest times.
